What you need

A browser and an email address. That is the whole list. Crime City runs entirely on the web — there is nothing to download, nothing to install, no launcher and no updates to sit through. It works on Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge, on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS.

Because it is text and tables rather than a 3D world, the hardware floor is effectively zero. An old laptop is fine. A phone on mobile data is fine. It will happily run in a browser tab next to everything else you have open, which is how most people actually play it.

Your first ten minutes

You start at level 1 with $1,000, 50 tickets and no reputation, in the middle of a season alongside everyone else who has done the same. The opening loop is small on purpose.

  1. Commit a few crimes. The crime list is the money engine early on. Low-tier jobs are cheap to fail and teach you how the odds work.
  2. Train. The gym converts a training resource into strength, defence and the other combat stats. Nothing else you do matters much in a fight until this does.
  3. Bank what you are carrying. Cash on hand can be taken off you. Cash in the bank cannot.
  4. Find a gang. Almost everything at the top of the game is a group activity, and joining early is how you learn the parts the interface does not explain.

How much time it takes

Less than you would expect from an MMO. Actions run on energy and cooldowns that refill on a clock whether or not you are online, so there is no way to play twelve hours straight and no penalty for not trying. Two check-ins a day is a completely normal way to compete.

The season structure matters here too. A season runs 25 days and then the city wipes — everyone back to level 1, champion included. That means a run has a finish line, and it means missing a month is not the end of anything. You are never permanently behind, because nobody is permanently ahead.

The catch worth knowing before you start

Death is permanent within a season. If another player completes a kill operation on you, that character is gone until the next wipe, and the only way back is a one-time VIP revival. It is the single most important rule in the game and the reason people are careful about who they antagonise in week one.

Do not walk around loaded
The most common way a new player loses everything is carrying a season of earnings in hand instead of in the bank. Deposit before you log off.
A new season starts on the 1st of every month
Everyone restarts at level 1. Free in your browser — no download, no wallet, no card.

Can I play a mafia game in my browser without downloading anything?

Yes. Crime City runs entirely in a web browser on desktop and mobile with no client, no launcher and no install. You need a browser and an email address to register, and a guest trial needs neither.

Does Crime City work on a phone?

Yes, on both Android and iOS browsers, and it is the full game rather than a reduced mobile version. Because the game is text and tables rather than 3D, it runs well on older phones and on mobile data.

Is Crime City free to play?

Yes. The game is free in the browser with nothing to buy in order to compete. VIP exists and adds optional perks, but it is an edge rather than dominance and does not sell power that free players cannot reach.

How much time do I need to play each day?

A few minutes, twice a day, is enough to stay competitive. Actions run on energy and cooldown timers that refill on a clock whether or not you are logged in, so the game does not reward sitting in front of it for hours.

What do you start with in Crime City?

Every player starts a season at level 1 with $1,000, 50 tickets and no reputation. That is true for everybody including the previous season champion, because the city wipes completely at the start of each 25-day season.
