Games Like Torn City
If you have played Torn, Omerta, Mob Wars or Bootleggers, you already know the loop. Here is what Crime City keeps, what it throws out, and who it is actually for.
Last updated
Torn City has been running since 2004 and it earned its players. The crime list, the gym, the faction wars, the market — that template is the reason this whole genre exists, and most games in it are variations on the theme. Crime City is one of them: a text-driven mafia MMO in the browser where you rob for cash, train stats, join a gang and settle scores.
So the honest question is not "is it like Torn" — it is what does it do differently, and is that difference worth starting over for. There is one real answer, and everything else follows from it.
The games people usually mean
If you searched this phrase you probably wanted a list, so here is an honest one before the pitch. These are the games that come up whenever somebody asks the question, and most of them have been running far longer than this one.
Two caveats worth stating. First, these games change — features get added, rounds get restructured, populations move — so treat the table as a starting point and go look rather than taking a stranger's summary as current. Second, the honest recommendation for most people is that if you are happy in Torn, none of the others will feel like an upgrade on features alone. They have had less time to build them.
Which is exactly why the interesting question is not "which one has more content". It is which one is structured so that starting today is not a disadvantage — and that is a design decision, not a feature count.
The problem with a game that never resets
The most common reason people search for a Torn alternative is not that they dislike Torn. It is that they opened an account in 2026 and found players who have been training since 2009. In a persistent world, stats compound forever. A dedicated newcomer can play perfectly for six months and still be a rounding error next to someone who has simply been there longer — and no amount of skill closes a gap that is made of time.
Every long-running game in this genre has this problem eventually. Most solve it with tiered brackets, or by not solving it.
Crime City resets the whole city every month
A season runs 25 days. On the 1st of the month at 20:00 UTC the city wipes and everyone — the last champion included — restarts at level 1 with $1,000 and 50 tickets. Nobody defends a throne, they re-earn it. Whatever you build has to be built again, which means the ladder is decided by what you did this month rather than by an account age nobody can catch.
That is the trade, stated plainly: you give up permanent progression, and you get a game where joining today is not a handicap. If long-term character growth is the part of Torn you love most, you will miss it here and that is a fair reason to stay. If the veteran wall is why you are reading this page, this is the fix.
Death actually means something
In most games in this family a beating is a hospital timer — you sit out twenty minutes and come back. In Crime City a successful kill operation ends that character for the rest of the season. The only way back is a one-time VIP revival.
This changes how people behave more than any stat does. Enemies are liabilities you carry for weeks instead of respawning inconveniences, gangs think hard before starting something they cannot finish, and the top of the leaderboard stays genuinely unstable until the last day.
The top of the table gets paid
Finishing a season at the top is rewarded in $CRIME, a real token on Solana. It is worth being precise about how optional that is: the entire game is free, no wallet is required to register or to compete, and you can play a whole season and never interact with crypto at all. A wallet matters only if you place high enough to claim a prize.
Coming from Torn: what maps to what
Most of the loop will be muscle memory. The vocabulary is different, so here is the translation — every right-hand entry links to the full page in the Street Guide.
Who should not bother
Worth saying out loud. If you want a character you will still be growing in three years, a seasonal game is the wrong shape and you should stay where you are. If you enjoy a deep established market economy with two decades of price history, Torn does that better and will for a long time. And if you want a big population at 4am, Torn is far larger — Crime City is new.
What a new game does give you is a leaderboard that has not been decided yet, and a shot at the top of it in your first month.
What is the closest game to Torn City?
Mechanically the closest games are Omerta, Mob Wars: LCN, MafiaMatrix and Bootleggers — all text-driven crime MMOs built on the same crime-and-train loop as Torn, and all persistent worlds like Torn. Crime City runs the same loop but in 25-day seasons that wipe, which is the main structural difference between it and everything else in the list.
Is Crime City free to play?
Yes. The whole game is free in the browser on desktop and mobile with nothing to download. VIP exists and adds optional perks, but it is an edge rather than dominance and does not sell power that free players cannot reach.
Do I need a crypto wallet to play Crime City?
No. You can play an entire season free with no wallet and no crypto involvement. Top finishers can be rewarded in $CRIME on Solana, so a wallet only matters if you are claiming a prize. It is never required to create an account or to compete.
Is there a game like Torn where new players can actually compete?
That is the premise of Crime City. Each season lasts 25 days and ends in a full wipe, so the leaderboard reflects what you did that season rather than an account age nobody can catch up to. A player who registers on day one of a season is on the same footing as the previous season champion.
How long does a Crime City season last?
Twenty-five days. A season starts on the 1st of each month at 20:00 UTC and ends on the 26th at the same hour, after which the city wipes and everyone restarts at level 1 with $1,000.
What happens when you die in Crime City?
Death is permanent for the remainder of the season. A character killed in a kill operation is out until the next wipe, and the only exception is a one-time VIP revival. This is unlike Torn and most games in the genre, where being hospitalised is a timer rather than an ending.
What is the best free alternative to Torn City?
It depends on what pushed you to look. If you want the most features, nothing in the genre out-features Torn and probably will not for a long time. If you bounced off the gap between new players and 15-year veterans, you want a game that resets — which is what Crime City does every 25 days. If you want deep role-play systems, MafiaMatrix leans hardest that way, and Omerta is the one built around family politics.
Are there games like Torn City on mobile?
Crime City runs in a normal mobile browser with no download and installs as a PWA if you want an icon on your home screen, so it plays on a phone without an app store. Mob Wars: LCN is the game in this genre with the most conventional mobile-app presence. Torn itself is browser-first.
Is Crime City a Torn City clone?
It shares the genre loop — commit crimes, train stats, join a gang, fight other players — the same way most games in this family do, because Torn defined that template. The structure is deliberately different: 25-day seasons that wipe completely, permanent death within a season, and a token prize for top finishers. Those change how a season is played rather than reskinning it.
I already play Torn. Is it worth switching?
Switching is probably the wrong frame — these are cheap to play alongside each other, since a season is 25 days and sessions are minutes rather than hours. The case for adding Crime City is that it gives you a leaderboard that has not been decided yet. The case against is that if you have years invested in a Torn character, nothing here replaces that, and it is not trying to.
